Lieutenant Colonel Dewana Butler Selected for Promotion to Colonel

LTC Butler currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G4, for the 1st Theater Sustainment Command (TSC)-Operational Command Post (OCP), 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. She received her commission as a Chemical Officer from Tuskegee University in 2002.

 Lieutenant Colonel Dewana Butler receiving awardShe graduated from the Chemical Officer Basic Course, the Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Support Operations Course, Command and General Staff Intermediate Level Education Common Core, and Advanced Operations Courses.

LTC Butler began her military career as an active-duty Chemical Officer assigned to the 18th Aviation Brigade. She held various leadership and staff roles, including Battalion Chemical Officer, Company Executive Officer, and Platoon Leader.

In 2004, she deployed as a Battalion Battle Captain during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and she joined the Alabama National Guard in 2006. She had the privilege and honor to serve as Battalion Commander for the 145th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Battalion and the Commander for HHC, 1200th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. In 2010, LTC Butler deployed to Afghanistan and served as the Supply and Services Officer for Joint Sustainment Command-Afghanistan. She is currently deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

She is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School – Executive Education Leadership in Homeland Security Course. And she has earned over 10 awards and decorations throughout her service.
